Blucher Rocker w/ Kiltie  - G Brown

The blucher moccasin was popularized in the 1950s and 60s as a formalized variation of the lace-up moccasin, more commonly experienced as a boat shoe. The blucher provided a more sophisticated, elongated silhouette, reminiscent of the style of dress shoe with which it shared its name. Yuketen's Blucher Rocker with Kiltie pairs the urban moccasin with a combination EVA foam and crepe outsole for long-standing comfort and a contoured, molded fit.

This three-eyelet, unlined shoe is made from Horween Chromexcel leather. Chromexcel is a buttery, malleable 'pull-up' leather born of a unique double-tanning process of vegetable and chrome treatments, which imbues the leather with pleasantly aromatic liquor notes. Its suppleness, revealing of lighter tones in its oiled surface when stretched, makes it particularly suitable for moccasin construction. Important design details are the lace-in kiltie nestled under the blucher pieces, our signature baseball stitch overcast, and pinking decoration on the heel seam cover, all of which contribute a touch of elegance to this updated moccasin silhouette.

Each shoe is hand-stitched in our Maine factory using a three-dimensional pattern. To closely mirror the incongruence of the human foot and deliver a molded fit, seven asymmetrical pieces of leather are hand-punched and hand-sewn with awl, needle, and thread on Yuketen’s proprietary last. The result is that the 'blucher' pieces (separate leather pieces sewn to the vamp for lacing) are asymmetrical, and contour more accurately to the wearer's foot during lacing. The base of the vamp has been cinched to further ensure an integumentary fit.

Full-leather insoles, leather tucks, and steel shank reinforcements increase fitting in the arch and heel as well as lessen foot fatigue by forming a stable bridge between the heel and ball of the owner's foot. Our Yuketen signature tucks are made from 100% vegetable-tanned leather and will naturally accommodate the distinct shape of the wearer.
The rocker outsole present on this shoe was once used for orthopedic patients in need of soft and forgiving outsoles. Repurposed for Yuketen footwear, the combination of EVA foam and crepe rubber result in a supremely comfortable outsole, upon which a full vegetable-tanned leather midsole sits.
The Blucher Rocker with Kiltie, available exclusively from Yuketen, combines contemporary outsole components with heritage moccasin construction for informal, urban elegance.
