Sizing Guide: Yuketen moccasin styles are true to US standard size. We recommend checking your shoe size in the New Balance Made in USA models (ex. 993, 996, 998) or on the Brannock Device.
Please note that this is just a sizing reference. Every single person has different shape of foot. Thus, to determine the most accurate size for your foot, we suggest visiting a Yuketen stockist if there is one near you for fitting advice and the opportunity to try on an actual pair. If you are unsure about the sizing, please contact us for advice before purchasing.
The chukka's liminal character, offering a mid-cut profile and slender silhouette between a shoe and a boot, made it an icon of mid-60's cool. The All Handsewn Tokyo DB Chukka is a modern interpretation of the classic chukka that is rendered from an organic composition of leather, rubber and traditional moccasin construction. The Chukka’s unique appearance is embellished by ball-bearing lacing hooks used since the 1940’s for alpine ski boots, which are both functional and stylish. As one of Yuketen’s most challenging handsewn moccasins, the All Handsewn Tokyo DB Chukka is a testament to the incomparable capability of Yuketen’s handsewers.
Each pair of Yuketen’s genuine moccasin-construction footwear is entirely handcrafted in our factory in Maine, USA. The shoes benefit from their construction using only the best components and materials such as the Chromexcel leather. Chromexcel is a buttery, malleable 'pull-up' leather born of a unique double-tanning process of vegetable and chrome treatments, which imbues the leather with pleasantly aromatic liquor notes. Its suppleness, revealing lighter tones in its oiled surface when stretched, makes it particularly suitable for moccasin construction.
To closely mirror the incongruence of the human foot and deliver a molded fit, multiple pieces of leather are hand-sewn and hand-lasted on Yuketen’s proprietary last, which was developed in the 1950s and was known as the best shoe last for an American-made moccasin. In addition, the base of the vamp has been cinched to further ensure an integumentary fit.
A Rocker Sole complements the dense eight layers of rubber and leather underfoot. Full vegetable-tanned leather insoles and midsoles, and tucks with steel shank reinforcements increase fitting in the arch and heel as well as lessen foot fatigue by forming a stable bridge between the heel and ball of the owner's foot which causes weight to be distributed more evenly across the foot. This results in reduced foot fatigue and improved comfort. Yuketen’s signature tucks are made from 100% vegetable-tanned leather and will naturally accommodate the distinct shape of the wearer.
