Yuketen Charlie Ox is entirely hand-cut and bench-made in Mexico with Goodyear-welted construction and old world bootmaking methods and techniques using a sturdy 1910 German-made welt stitcher.
These shoes are handcrafted from a rich and malleable full grain cow leathers, resulting in wonderful contrasts and patinas over time. The upper leather is lined with soft-tanned cow leather for added comfort and durability.
The shape originates from a 1930s work boot last that is specifically designed for workers in harsh environment to guarantee long-wearing comfort. Natural leather insoles are used for this model to ensure conformity to the shape of the wearer’s foot over time for improved fit. The outsole is made of extra-thick oiled leather to maximize durability and longevity while the Goodyear stitching through the bottom of the outsole leather is sealed (close channel stitching) to eliminate thread breakage. This style also boasts a natural leather welt, midsole and stuck heel, to complete the outward statement of high-quality materials and construction.
The other important component used in the construction is the lemonwood pegs that are hand-hammered into the bottom of the stuck heel. The lemonwood pegs are more malleable than brass nails as they expand when exposed to water and contract with moisture at almost an identical rate as leathers.
These remarkable features mark a new direction for Yuketen’s design aesthetic verging toward formal elegance while simultaneously maintaining all core principles and construction techniques for highest-quality handmade products.
