Alan boots are entirely hand-cut, hand-lasted and bench-made in Mexico with Goodyear-welted construction and old world bootmaking techniques onto 1930’s American modified lasts for the ideal union of comfort and style. The modified lasts the shoes’ are built upon were originally designed to stop the wearer from over-pronating, helping them to correct their gait and develop a better, healthier walking motion. As such, the modified lasts provide exceptional arch support to the structure of the foot.

These boots are handcrafted from a soft tanned silky feel cow suede upper lined with soft-tanned cow leather for added comfort and durability. An equally fundamental components of this style are the sturdy foundation that is constructed of multiple layers of hand-shaved 100% veg-tan leather insole, welt, outsole and heel. Also the back of the leather insole is shaved up by hand to make a rib for stitching the welt, which is a meticulous detail of a genuine traditional shoe making technique results in making a long-lasting life to the shoe that those with a strip of preformed canvas-like rib.

The other important component used in the construction is the lemonwood pegs that are hand-hammered into the bottom of the outsoles to secure the stuck heel. The lemonwood pegs are more malleable than brass nails as they expand when exposed to water and contract with moisture at almost an identical rate as leathers.

Yuketen’s meticulous Goodyear stitches are made by a sturdy 1910 German-made welt stitcher with close channel stitching technique, which seals the goodyear stitching seams at the bottom of the outsole leather to eliminate thread breakage. Veg-tan leather insoles ensure conformity to the shape of the wearer’s foot for long-term comfort. Forepart of the insoles are hand-sanded as it helps to absorb the moisture from the feet and keeps them dry. One of the fascinating details of this style is the combination of the semi-modified last and the 1950’s orthopedic leather shoe spec heel counter that is extending to the arch area to fulfill a roll as an arch support provides the orthopedic fitting which improves posture and reduces foot fatigue.

These remarkable features mark an important direction for Yuketen’s design aesthetic verging toward formal elegance while simultaneously maintaining all core principles and construction techniques for highest-quality handmade products
