Yuketen is proud to preset the Makiko Shigeto-designed Saddle Loafer as part of our Fall and Winter 2014 women’s footwear collection. Shigeto and Matsuda formed a creative partnership during Shigeto’s time at Yuketen that continues to bear finely crafted women’s footwear.
Each shoe is handstitched in our Maine, U.S.A. factory from Horween’s Chromexcel leather tanned in the U.S.A. Chromexcel leather is significant and particularly suitable for moccasin construction footwear as a result of the unique double tanning process (combination chrome tanning and vegetable tanning) that produces luxurious malleable pull-up leather with rich pleasantly aromatic liquor notes. The upper is hand-punched and handsewn with awl, needle, and thread on Yuketen's proprietary last from multiple pieces of leather in order to ensure reinforcement, is cinched at the base to create an integumentary fit, and features Yuketen’s signature pinked collar and backstay.
A crepe wedge outsole is directly attached to a natural-crepe midsole, Made in the U.S.A. from 100% natural crepe. This double pairing provides superb shock absorption and an incredibly soft and slip-resistant tread, ensuring sustained comfort in walking long city blocks or travelling afoot down dusty country roads.
The Saddle Loafer with Kiltie offers a robust and fortified twist on the classic penny loafer, leaving it well suited for fall and winter use.
