Yuketen's collaboration with Heschung marks the fruition of designer Yuki Matsuda's dream, born over two decades ago, of offering an authentic, Norwegian-welted shoe. While still a teenager and working for an import clothier in Osaka's Amerikamura ('American Village'), Yuki first encountered the 'Tyrolean', a classic Norwegian-welted, Alpine hiking boot made popular by European brands such as Bonarle, Dolomite and, of course, Heschung. In finally joining with this acclaimed French shoe maker to create the Tyrolean-style Verbier, Yuketen is announcing a milestone achievement for both Yuki and the company, providing a shoe that meets the demanding standards of the original while remaining unique in design.

Each shoe is made in Heschung's factory in Strasbourg, France from 100% vegetable-tanned full-grain leather. A pinked leather welt is stitched to both to the upper and the insole with Norwegian welt stitching, also known as 'waterproof welt' because of the effective seal this creates. The Verbier is constructed entirely from French components and uses an original Tyrolean last for superior fit. The distinctive ridge of pinched leather that runs from the tip to the collar is adorned by pinking as an artistic reflection of the welt pinking detail. The cork-embedded lug sole gives this two-eyelet, leather-lined boot a stacked appearance.

Full-leather insoles, natural cork filler for cushioning, and steel shank reinforcements increase fitting in the arch and heel as well as lessen foot fatigue by forming a stable bridge between the heel and ball of the individual owner's foot. The Verbier represents a collaboration celebrating the best of Heschung’s footwear construction capabilities complemented by the best of Yuketen’s emphasis on functional design.
